About CrowDownloader
A tool that does one thing well: saving video and audio from the web on your own computer.
Why it exists
If you want to save a video, you usually end up on sites full of ads, redirects and waiting times. There, the file is first loaded onto someone else’s server and then passed on to you. It’s slow, unpleasant, and nobody knows what happens to the data.
CrowDownloader works the other way around: the program runs on your device, talks directly to the source and saves the file wherever you want it. No account, no ads, no middleman.
What we built it for
- Many links at once. Paste them, let them run, get on with your work.
- Best quality without thinking about it. If there’s 4K, you get 4K. Formats that Apple devices can’t play are converted with hardware acceleration.
- Honest software. No tracking, no ads, no hidden subscriptions.
Who is behind it
Mateo Vetsch from Switzerland first built CrowDownloader for personal use because no existing solution was a good fit. The private tool turned into a product that has been publicly available since November 2026. It is developed and operated by Mateo Vetsch, see the legal notice.
What we build on
CrowDownloader stands on the shoulders of open-source projects, above all yt-dlp, FFmpeg and Tauri. Their license texts are included in the app. Without their work, this program would not exist.
What the app doesn’t do
No copy protection is circumvented. Services with DRM, such as subscription streaming services, are not supported, deliberately and permanently. You decide what you download: content you own, content that is freely licensed or content you have permission to download. The details are in the Terms of Use.
Independent
We don’t belong to any platform and don’t work with any. There is no partnership with, and no endorsement by, the services whose content can be processed with the software.
